{"id":10356,"date":"2016-08-24T12:48:08","date_gmt":"2016-08-24T16:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.unclerickaudios.com\/?p=10356"},"modified":"2016-08-24T12:48:08","modified_gmt":"2016-08-24T16:48:08","slug":"black-robed-regiment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/2016\/08\/24\/black-robed-regiment\/","title":{"rendered":"The Black-Robed Regiment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hey, little buddies!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I love stories about the Revolutionary War. \u00a0There\u2019s so much excitement and so many stories of heroism! \u00a0It\u2019s inspiring. \u00a0And oh, so many great men and women to admire. \u00a0Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Nathan Hale\u2014and so many more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One hero of the War of Independence was not a general on the battlefield, but a preacher. \u00a0In fact, a lot of the preachers of that day were heroes. \u00a0Despite the anger of the King, these fearless men of God preached faithfully the truth that God had created all men equal. \u00a0They condemned \u00a0sin wherever they saw it, and that included the King and Parliament. \u00a0When the English government committed illegal acts against the rights of the American colonists, there were loud and clear protests from the men called \u201cThe Black-robed Regiment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jonathan Mayhew was one such man. \u00a0His sermons were sometimes printed and distributed far and wide. \u00a0It was Mayhew that came up with the idea of the \u201cCommittees of Correspondence\u201d that connected the colonies together by sending messages up and down the eastern coast. \u00a0These committees shared news between colonies through messengers on horseback. \u00a0As communication increased between colonies, there grew an increasing feeling of brotherhood from Massachusetts to Georgia. \u00a0We were becoming a country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/jonathan-mayhew-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10360\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/jonathan-mayhew-2-219x300.jpg\" alt=\"jonathan-mayhew-2\" width=\"400\" height=\"547\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/jonathan-mayhew-2-219x300.jpg 219w, https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/jonathan-mayhew-2.jpg 613w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mayhew died of sickness before he got to see America gain her freedom. \u00a0But his preaching and his Committees of \u00a0Correspondence had such a great effect on the uniting of the colonies to protect each other from British tyranny that John Adams said that Mayhew had \u201cfired the opening gun of the Revolution.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[flat_button text=&quot;Listen to Samples!&quot; title=&quot;Flat Button&quot; url=&quot;https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/audio-club-products-and-samples\/&quot; padding=&quot;14px 36px&quot; bg_color=&quot;#FF5C00&quot; border_color=&quot;#FF5C00&quot; border_width=&quot;1px&quot; text_color=&quot;#FFFFFF&quot; text_size=&quot;14px&quot; align=&quot;center&quot; target=&quot;_self&quot;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey, little buddies!
