We made a trip to Yorktown, VA which is about 3 hours from our home.\u00a0Yorktown is credited for being the final battle of the War of Independence. This is where Cornwallis surrendered to General Washington. We saw so many things that I might have to write to you a few times about all that we saw. When we first arrived, we went to the American Revolution Museum.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/george-washington-uncle-rick.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-29475\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/george-washington-uncle-rick.jpg\" alt=\"George Washington Statue\" width=\"480\" height=\"613\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/george-washington-uncle-rick.jpg 480w, https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/george-washington-uncle-rick-235x300.jpg 235w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div>Out front is a sitting statue of George Washington. That&#8217;s me and him!<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.characterconcepts.com\/unclerick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/george-washington-uncle-rick.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<div>I&#8217;m going to list some of the things we saw in the museum:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>The portable writing desk of partisan ranger Francis Marion- The actual one he carried around with him and used. It was so exciting to see the real thing. If you don&#8217;t know about Francis Marion, be sure to check out Uncle Rick Reads Marion&#8217;s Men. He had so many exciting adventures and helped to win the War of Independence in the south.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Layfayette&#8217;s actual pistols!!! (If you don&#8217;t know who Layfayette was, you&#8217;ll want to listen\u00a0to Uncle Rick Reads the True Story of Layfayette).\u00a0He was a brave young Frenchman who left the comforts of his home in France to help us fight for our freedom from England. He was a personal friend of George Washington and actually named one of his children after him. He was present at the Battle of Yorktown! Men would carve their names on their powderhorns.
